> Editing Out Noises <

If you want to remove those unwanted, already tracked noises (breathing, soft throat clearing, lip smacking, nose whistling, etc), or guitar string hum, or someone tapping lightly on an acoustic guitar, or noises in general that just REALLY detract from the performance; here's what you do:

Note the track you wish to edit, and write it down.

Select Track>Phrase Divide. The 'Phrase Divide' pop-up window appears.

Leave the IN Threshold at the default setting (-48dB)

Leave the OUT Threshold at the default setting (-60dB)

Leave both the IN Margin and the OUT Margin at 1.0 sec

Select the 'SelPhr' (F1) button, then check the box to the left of the v-track you wish to divide.

Click OK. The 'PHRASE DIVIDE sure?' pop-up window appears. Click 'YES'.

The 'DIVIDE' Now Working. . . pop-up window appears, then disappears after the phase has been divided.

The 'Done!' pop-up window briefly appears, then disappears.

Click 'EXIT' (F6) on the Phrase Divide pop-up window.

That's it!

Your long phrase (normally referred to as a Region, but it's still also a Phrase) has been split up into shorter phrases, and the lower level noises have been removed (provided that have fallen into the proper -dB range as specified in the IN and OUT Threshold settings).

If it's not correct, or what you're looking for, simply hit the UNDO button, select the Phrase Divide event, and hit ENTER.

You can then reset the IN and OUT -dB levels to suit the performance, and divide it until you get it the way you want.

NOTE: If you're one that likes to Normalize often, perform that function first before attempting the Phrase Divide function.
