Eddy Crank - Preamp Overdrive
First, with the unit off, turn the SENS knob all the way counter
clockwise (7 o’clock) and make sure the PAD switch is off.
Turn on the 2480.
Patch a 1/4" phone cable (yes, you can also use a male TRS to
male TRS, or male TRS to male XLR cable) from, say, AUX A (output 3) to
INPUT 3.
Then, turn on the 2480's internal signal generator/oscillator from
UTILITY > GEN/OSC, set it to Sine Wave, and leave it at 1000Hz. Then
click on the DIR 2 button.
Go to the internal analyzer from UTILITY > ANALYZER and check the
USE EFFECTS BOARD 'A' box, and set the SOURCE to IN 3; and leave the
AVERAGE TIMES set to 1.
Now go to EZ ROUTING > ROUTING VIEW and route the AUX A (3&4)
to DIR 1/2 in the OUTPUT ASSIGN section on the right. Press the IN1-16
button and set channels 3’s fader to unity. Press the CH EDIT button
and make sure no Dynamics or EQ is assigned to the input. Press the HOME
button, then the INPUT button via the VGA screen (if using a VGA
monitor).
At this point you should see a signal on the analyzer for analog
INPUT 3. You should also see distortion (displayed as energy levels in
the RTA analyzer at 2KHz and above)

Turn the headphones, and the MASTER levels WAY DOWN. (MASTER level
not off, just down around -24dB)
Slowly turn the analog SENS knob up to the 5 o’clock position for
INPUT 3 and note the terrible distortion that’s being introduced on
the Analyzer chart as you continue turning the knob clockwise to it’s
5 o’clock (final clockwise cranked) position.
Now, turn the SENS knob all the way counter-clockwise.
Repeat the procedure for each input by moving the patch cable to the
next input, crank it up and crank it back with that sine wave signal
present.
Also note you’ll need to change the SOURCE on the analyzer to the
appropriate input number. Check you routing paths in EZ Routing to be
sure you’re cranking the correct SENS knobs.
When you're done removing the analog input distortion on for all 16
analog inputs, go back and turn off the GEN/OSC, Dir 2, the analyzer,
unplug the patch cable, and set the EZ Routing mapping back to where it
was before you made any changes.
At this point you can now just set your analog INPUT levels as you
normally would.
