Have
Roland Fix your 2480
Roland has acknowledged this design flaw and has an
"unwritten" policy of fixing this for you free of charge. You
can take this into your local authorized service center or ship it to
Roland for repair. If you ship it to Roland, you will be responsible for
the shipping cost to Roland (they pay for return shipping). If you take
it to a local service center, there will be no shipping costs.
From my experience, this "preamp fix" is free of charge regardless of the
warranty status and regardless of whether you are the original owner or
not. I purchased my 2480HD second hand, it was out of warranty, and it
was still fixed by Roland for free.
WARNING: Not every local Roland service center knows about this
problem... and "some" of the tech people at Roland, "if
you call them direct", try to talk you out of having this service
done or tell you that it is not a really big problem (just overdrive the
pre-amps before recording).
The Best advice I have, for those who want the pre-amp fix done, is to call Roland US (or your country's Roland
unit), ask for tech support, explain that you have an earlier 2480HD or
2480CD,
would like the preamp fix completed, and you need an RMA number to send
it in.
You can also ask Roland to call a local service center near you, and
arrange for your 2480 to be taken there.
Be persistent, and if you have problems with a particular tech
person, call back later and try to get someone else. Patrick, at Roland
US has been particularly helpful on several occasions.
